Commentary regarding the Restrictions on the Activities of Civil Society Institutions in Azerbaijan

The graduates of the "School of Young Social Researchers" of the Institute of Democratic Initiatives prepared a commentary "Regarding the Restrictions on the Activities of Civil Society Institutions in Azerbaijan".

The purpose of the commentary is to present a description of the structural and relative difficulties that arise during the implementation of the activities of non-governmental organizations and civil society organizations in Azerbaijan.

The research shows that the interrelatedness of the mentioned problems can be explained by the fact that the politically motivated regulatory restrictions imposed by the law narrow the scope of activities of the civil society. It can also be noted that the state's exclusive powers in this regard create a basis for the management of civil society and control its sphere of activity. We consider it necessary to take appropriate steps in the following directions in order to eliminate the described limitations and realize the potential of Azerbaijan's civil society

  • Removal of legal restrictions
  • Promotion of decentralization and good governance

The commentary is only available in Azerbaijani.
